Elderly & Dementia Care
My Experience

Self-employment:

I am very close to my grandparents and have always enjoyed the company of older people. When I became self-employed, I was approached by a lady in her late eighties whose mobility was deteriorating. Just a few weeks into my role, her husband passed away and my hours steadily increased so that could provide her with company, conversation, emotional support, help with cooking and food preparation, looking after her garden, taking her to appointments, going food shopping on her behalf and much more. I enjoyed the different approach needed to care for an older person, so opened up my availability to support more older people... and the rest they say is history! I worked for Pam for over three years and we are still in touch - you can read her review below.

Since then, I have supported several older people who have lost their spouses; providing company and support during difficult and lonely times. I focus on supporting and improving my clients' emotional well-being and assisting them in any way I can, often delaying the transition into full-time care, thus giving the client longer at home.

Caring for people with dementia, inclusive of Alzheimer's, has its challenges, but I have maintained a calm, reassuring and professional approach in the ways I support my clients. I have given their families peace of mind by being a known and trusted companion, keeping them up-to-date with anything of importance and genuinely caring for their relatives.

CAREGiver / Field Supervisor with Home Instead:

In October 2020, I moved from Nottingham to Scalford, a village in the Vale of Belvoir / Leicestershire countryside. Whilst I settled into this gorgeous but new area, I continued to support my private clients and began working for Home Instead - a domiciliary care company supporting elderly people at home. In this role, I furthered my experience assisting people with dementia, supervising staff and improved my administration skills.
