FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the workshop aims?

Above all else, I want you to enjoy getting creative and have fun!

I facilitate many sessions for neurodiverse people, disabled people, people with dementia and people needing mental health support.

At the heart of my sessions, are the  values;

Building  confidence
Making space for calm
Developing coordin
ation
Allowing time for creativity

Who can take part?

Anyone age 7 or above, regardless of ability.

Some workshops involve a sewing machine, glue gun or glass so will not be suitable for everyone or will require supervision from a responsible adult.

I am happy to discuss your needs, offer alternatives and adjust accordingly. Please read more below about how I adapt my sessions to make them more inclusive.

Where do they
take place?

I am happy to host my workshops in your home, inclusive of care homes, hospices and hospitals, as well as schools, workplaces, event spaces and more.

I live in Wymondham, a village between Melton Mowbray and Oakham, so I primarily serve Leicestershire and Rutland.  I also serve Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire, but am willing to travel further, depending on the workshop length and group size.

What do I need
to provide?

All you need to do is ensure there is a suitable table and comfortable space to work in. We might need an area to wash up in, depending on the type of workshop.

It's best if you wear clothes you don't mind potentially getting mucky.

I'll provide examples, rescources for inspiriation and all the materials you'll need.

How do I adapt my Arts & Crafts sessions to make them more accessible and inclusive?

I have been a carer since 2014, so I pride myself on having patience and compassion for understanding each individual's needs, strengths and weaknesses. We can organise a free consultation so I can find out more about what makes you unique, ease any anxieties and I can plan accordingly.

When you book with me, I will recognise your disabilities but never underestimate your possibilities!

I regularly facilitate workshops for groups of 10 or more people at  a local mental well-being Craft Café at Pepper's - A Safe Place, where people have a diverse range of needs and skill sets. Volunteers are on hand to help out but I do my utmost best to adapt my sessions so that everyone gets something out of them. You can find a review from the Development Manager below.

Regardless of ability or needs, one-to-one sessions are the best way to get the most out of your creative time, as you will have all of my attention. However,  groups do work well, especially if a
dditional carers or staff are present if needed. I am always happy to discuss ways I can adapt my sessions and workshops, in order to make them more fun and accessible for everyone!

Pippa, Development Manager at Pepper's - A Safe Place

Holly has been coming to Pepper’s for a few months, we always look forward to her sessions. Holly comes well prepared with some brilliant crafts. We have found it hard to find craft tutors who can make sessions accessible to a wide range of abilities, non-patronising to adults and able to accommodate the unknowns of a drop-in centre like ours- Holly ticks all of the boxes. On top of this Holly is welcoming and friendly to all of our members, she puts them at ease and gently encourages. We are lucky to call her part of our team.
